A well-placed sentence fragment or a sentence beginning with"And"or"But"or"Or"can emphasize a point well. But too much of this sort of thing and you'll sound shrill.Or dull. It's okay to wink at your reader every now and then,if that's appropriate to your Assignment's tone, but try to avoid spending so much time winking that you never seem to have your eyes open.
"But"—only use it if you really mean it;that is,if you're introducing a counter-argument or contradiction.
Jones's theory is a direct contradiction of Smith's"“琼斯的理论与史密斯的直接矛盾”
无论你在哪里使用“Throughout history,man has...” 例如,你可以说:"humans"or"we"or"people"or"men and women."
当你提到没有特定性别的人时(比如说"The last line confuses the reader..."),你应该怎么做呢?
偶尔,你可以使用“he or she”。
只要有可能,使用复数来避免这个问题:“Readers may be confused when they get to the last line”这是解决问题的一种巧妙方法。
